Early in the spring of 2017, we broke ground on our first ever 22-unit Affordable Housing Building. We spent that year watching the building grow, and opened the doors officially to our first residents in July of 2018. The building is completely accessible offering two barrier free units. The building itself has 8 two bedroom units and 14 one bedroom units, with most of them overlooking the Kitchener’s Rockway Golf Course! Proudly, the Affordable Housing Building was built for anyone in need of affordable housing in the community. This includes people with or without disabilities and people from the affordable housing waitlist.
We believe in a Neighbour Helping Neighbour model…but what does that mean? It means we look out for each other. The culture is one where neighbours engage with each other, open a door, hold the elevator. We are invested in each other and everyone’s well-being.
In 2019, our affordable housing building won a City of Kitchener “Great Places Award” for Urban Design Excellence. With this building, KW Habilitation is fulfilling our Vision: a community where everyone belongs and participates. Our plans at KW Habilitation include expanding our affordable housing options and when people donate to KW Hab, it helps us (and our neighbours) move closer to this goal. We are already shovel-ready for our next 18- unit affordable housing unit and are working towards our funding goal to put this into action!
