On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, MP Tim Louis stopped by Our Farm to check in on the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) staff members at Our Farm.
The Canada Summer Jobs program offers wage subsidies to employers from nonprofit organizations, such as KW Habilitation. CSJ creates summer employment opportunities for youth aged 15 to 30 within our community, assisting them in gaining work experience and entering the workforce.
For nearly a decade now, Our Farm at KW Habilitation has been applying for these wage subsidies through the Canada Summer Jobs program, and each year we are able to hire CSJ employees to help from 8 to 16 weeks during the summer.
From seeding to weeding and harvesting to composting, having Canada Summer Jobs employees makes a huge difference in the amount of work we can do on Our Farm which increases the amount of fresh produce we can provide to our community.
On Tuesday, MP Tim Louis, who is passionate about the Canadian Agriculture sector got his hands dirty and joined our CSJ staff by helping harvest some fresh carrots!
MP Tim Louis is also a member of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food. Together, MP Tim Louis along with other politicians study bills, government activities and expenditures and any issues related to Canada’s agriculture and agri-food industry.
Overall, MP Tim Louis, who has been a CSJ advocate for years, was a welcome visitor to Our Farm. He didn’t just get involved in the hands-on work; he also gained an understanding of our needs at Our Farm to ensure the program thrives with the help of CSJ year after year.
