Today is International Volunteer Day!
United Nations Volunteers founded International Volunteer Day in 1985 and since then, it has been celebrated every year on December 5. They said: International Volunteer Day (IVD), is an opportunity for us all to promote volunteerism, encourage governments to support volunteer efforts and recognize volunteer contributions to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at local, national and international levels.
Beth Wilson, the Volunteer and Student Placement Coordinator at KW Habilitation would like to share this message:
I’d like to take the opportunity to thank the volunteers that have generously donated their time, skills, passion and dedication this year. Since January, our volunteers have already given over 5000 hours to KW Habilitation! The impact our volunteers have goes way beyond the hours they give. We have had volunteers working with children to develop social skills through our Early Learning Enrichment volunteer program; assisting people to participate in activities at the Vibe, ADS, Leg Up and Weekend Respite programs; helping KW Career Compass job seekers develop resumes and practice interview skills; providing support to our Admin team; creating visuals for our Early Learning team; working at Our Farm and Our Farm Community Market to bring healthy, delicious produce to the people we support; warmly greeting everyone at our Welcome Centre; developing one to one friendships with people who may not have many unpaid supports in their life; and of course our Board of Directors who provide amazing leadership and direction. Our volunteers truly support the mission and vision of KW Habilitation and are an integral part of the KW Hab team. Thank you!
