A Bountiful Summer at Our Farm

As the season transitions from the warmth of summer into the crispness of fall, it’s a great time to reflect on the incredible spring and summer we’ve had at Our Farm. From early plantings to abundant harvests, our team of farmers has worked tirelessly to grow fresh, local produce for our community while creating memorable experiences along the way.

This season saw some very special moments, including launching our first ever veggie box subscription for people in our community. It’s been a great success and we’ve kept our subscribers informed with weekly updates and have provided them with the freshest selection of vegetables.  From kale to tomatoes, peppers to zucchini, and even fresh flower bouquets the bounty of Our Farm was shared with people who support our mission of local, sustainable food production.

This summer, we also had visits from the Minister of Agriculture, the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, MP Bardish Chagger, and MP Tim Louis.  Their tours of Our Farm helped to highlight the significance of sustainable farming and local food systems and the importance of the Canada Summer Jobs program that we rely on every year. We were pleased to share our progress and the work of our dedicated team with these leaders.

As we look back on the growing season, we are filled with gratitude for the countless hands that helped sow, tend, and harvest our vegetables. We have a brand new walk-in cooler (!!) at our Urban location and we hosted a record number of volunteers this year. They helped us spread compost, create new beds and plant trees (among so many other things!)

The Our Farm program has always been and still remains an unfunded program at KW Habilitation. We are so fortunate for the support we receive from our community in donations, volunteering, and even knowledge sharing to keep things growing. Thank you for being a part of this journey. Here’s to the harvest and beyond!
