Waiting to Belong Campaign: Coming Together for Change

Waiting to Belong Campaign

Waiting to Belong is a province‑wide campaign led by Community Living Ontario to draw attention to the long waits adults with developmental disabilities face for basic supports, housing, and community programs. Across Ontario, more than 53,000 adults are on waitlists, many for years.

Families and caregivers shared honest stories about the stress and uncertainty of waiting, helping bring this long‑standing issue back into public view.

KW Habilitation’s Local Involvement

KW Habilitation helped lead the campaign in Waterloo Region, with support from eight local agencies. We shared what we hear from families every day and spoke about how hard it is when supports simply aren’t available. Our goal was to make sure local experiences were part of the province‑wide conversation.

Community Response

Local media, including CBC Kitchener‑Waterloo, the Mike Farwell Show, and CTV News, covered the campaign and helped more people understand what families are facing. Similar coverage across Ontario added to the growing call for change.

Looking Ahead

The campaign is rooted in hope: hope that adults with disabilities won’t have to wait years for the supports they need, and hope that families can feel less overwhelmed. It also calls for better planning and real investment so people can live safely and with dignity.

KW Habilitation will keep speaking up and working with partners to push for solutions that make a real difference.
