This is a large graphic outlining details for the KW Career Compass LEG UP! to Work Course. This 8 week, in person Job Readiness Course Includes: 24 hours in class learning during the first 6 weeks, hands on skills evaluation at 2 or 3 different retail sites (approximately 6 hours) to occur over the 8 weeks. It also includes one to one resume work, practice interviews with community partners (approximately 2 hours), literacy evaluation (approximately 1.5 hours) and a planning meeting once classes are complete to determine next steps on the path to employment. The course Outline will focus on self-presentation (learning how to present yourself with confidence and how to make a good impression), time management (how to define your own skills and where you need to improve), and rights and responsibilities (becoming more familiar with the Employment Standards Act (ESA)and how to discuss disclosing a disability). This course also covers being professional (how to Identify good work ethic and review concepts of communication and advocacy), the realities of work (learn ways to cope with the feelings of starting a new job, the school to work transition and more) work-life balance (review the importance of self-care, and have discussions on anger, stress and coping skills), goals and barriers (understanding realistic goals both short and long term as well as learning about what barriers and accommodations are). This course also covers job search and interview skills (planning the right job search for your skills, preparing for information meetings and interviews) and feedback (learn the importance of give and receiving both positive and negative feedback).
